Business Update to Stakeholders: Notice of Retirement of the Director General

NOTICE OF RETIREMENT OF THE DIRECTOR GENERAL

April 02, 2024, | Harare, Zimbabwe| The Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) Board Chairman, Captain Alois G. Nyandoro and the Board, wish to advise all aviation industry stakeholders that Dr. Eng. Elijah Chingosho has tendered in his Notice of Retirement as Accountable Manager (Director General) for CAAZ, with effect from 05 November 2024. The notice period is to allow a seamless, smooth succession and hand over to a new incumbent and to ensure minimum or no interruption to normal operations.

During his tenure, Dr. Eng. Chingosho, achieved key milestones on air navigation systems and infrastructure improvements, further implementation of the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) with several Airlines being granted Foreign Operator Permits (FOPs), and an Effective Implementation (EI) score of 69.09% in the ICAO Coordinated Validation Mission (ICVM) Audit in 2023 up from 53.14% attained in the 2019 full scope audit, and above the global average EI of 67%, as well as the official launch of the Aviation Training Academy of Zimbabwe (ATAZ) as a fully accredited Approved Training Organization (ATO), among other successes.

Dr. Eng Chingosho, a Retired Group Captain from the Air Force of Zimbabwe, is a seasoned aviator and consultant, who joined CAAZ on 01 August 2021 at the height of a process to separate and hive off airport operations from the regulatory function, a process which was successfully completed. Prior to joining CAAZ, he was the immediate past Secretary General and Chief Executive Officer of the African Airlines Association (AFRAA), based in Nairobi, Kenya. He has authored four books namely Elementary Aircraft Propulsion (1989), African Airlines in the Era of Liberalization (2005) (second edition in 2009), Strategic Management Text and Cases and General Management (2007) for the Chartered Corporate Governance Institute, Zimbabwe.

The recruitment process has commenced in earnest and stakeholders will be advised of the outcome in due course. The Board reiterates that normal operations will continue uninterrupted in line with all stipulations of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The CAAZ Board would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Eng. Chingosho for his selfless dedication, commitment and profound service to the Authority and aviation industry at large, and wish him a restful pending retirement.
