Project Description
The academy was established by CAAZ in 2012 but no training took place since its inception then. ATAZ is located at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, Harare, and opened its doors on 1st of April 2022.
ATAZ is registered with the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development as an independent training institution.
The Academy has met all the Authority’s mandatory and regulatory requirements including the recruitment of key personnel as stipulated in SI 80 of 2018.
These are:
- The Accountable Manager
- The Head of Training
- The Quality and Safety Officer
ATAZ is an Approved Training Organisation (ATO) authorized to train ICAO Aviation approved Courses, and non-aviation courses, and award certificates that are recognized by the aviation industry.
The academy offers a variety of accredited short courses with a duration ranging from mostly 3 to 14 days and award learners with locally and internationally recognized qualifications.
Individual students can apply for the courses that already exist and, some customized courses that meet the specific needs of the clients and/or students.
The fee structure is designed in order to promote the development of the national skills base in the Aviation industry within and around Zimbabwe.
Purpose
Our Intention as the Aviation Training Academy of Zimbabwe is to become an internationally recognized center of aviation training Excellency, which meets professional development needs of civil aviation personnel, the aviation industry and other organizations.
ATAZ has adopted specialized training, covering a broad range of aviation domains, premised on our four pillars of learning: to Train, Research, Innovate and Produce relevant human capital (TRIP). ATAZ shall partner with other academic institutions of higher learning and industry experts locally and worldwide.
The objectives of establishing the academy are to:
- Offer specialized aviation training to the industry to address the skills gap.
- To provide localized and specialized training to reduce training cost for the authority.
